The Dan Barge, Jr. Award of Merit was established in 1980 to recognize an employee for a specific extraordinary initiative above the normal duties of one’s job in the prior year. Paul Darr was recently presented with the 2020 award for his exceptional work on the CityWalk BHAM project with our client, Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).
CityWalk BHAM is the final phase in the largest capital project ever undertaken in Central Alabama: to rebuild the I-59/20 bridges in Downtown Birmingham. This extensive project with ALDOT will transform the underutilized space beneath the I-59/20 corridor into an activated public space for the community. Darr led the complex, robust public input process – which stretched across years – quickly establishing trust and credibility with the client, stakeholders, and community.
Nominator Chris Grace, Vice President, shares, “Paul has been a champion for the CityWalk BHAM Project in the public involvement phase leading up to our design phase negotiations. Paul has gone above and beyond to be a resource and drive this project, consistently providing excellent service internally and externally, and becoming a trusted advisor to our client.”
